What the check looks for
- A unit on every value.
- Min, typ or max on every value that carries a tolerance. A single number does not say whether it is a tested limit or a typical value.
- A typical value next to a one-sided limit, and a tested limit behind a typical value.
- Test conditions per parameter: angle of incidence and temperature for center wavelength and bandwidth; a wavelength and angle for transmission; a range and angle for blocking; bias and temperature for dark current; bias and frequency for capacitance; bias, load and wavelength for rise time.
- Clear terms: FWHM, 10 % width or −3 dB for bandwidth; peak or average for transmission; center or peak for wavelength. No adjectives, approximate values or TBD in place of numbers.
- A tolerance on the center wavelength and on each dimension.
- Units that fit the parameter: nm for wavelength, A for current, F for capacitance, OD, dB or % for blocking.
- A temperature somewhere in the text, and a revision or date.
- How a high OD is measured, and whether a damage threshold is tested.
- Polarization for optical values at an angle above 0°.
